Connor and I are fans of our local UFL (United Football League) team, the Locos. I made this video to help promote fans to buy tickets to the first game. It was received very well, and has had a couple thousand hits since I posted it.

My four year-old Chloe sang her first solo, a verse of "Away in a Manger", last night. She was terrific! But in Chloe fashion, before she starts singing, she says to me (I'm the guitar player), "What, dad?" Then after her song, she still wants the mic, and is given the bums rush by a teacher (look at her slow burn reaction). At the end, she decides to make a face, and by the lady's cackling laugh in the background, I swear I thought I was at Amateur Night at the Apollo. Chloe is my princess, so this will be treasured for years to come... :)

Our big news to share this week is that a video clip of Connor singing "Silent Night" in our preschool choir from two years ago will be played this Sunday night, December 13, 2009, on "America's Funniest Home Videos." I don't know why I didn't send it in last year, but it got in for this Christmas. We were actually a little disappointed- I think everyone wishes their video can make it into the top three so you can get flown out to California and be on the show, but although it is a very cute video (you'll see), it wasn't someone getting whacked in the head with a hammer, so it didn't make it to the finals. But, since it is the favorite show for our family to gather and watch together each week, we are nonetheless thrilled, and will be cheering and laughing. Check for the time it broadcasts in your area. It is an ABC show. We will be rushing home from this years' Children's Choir concert to watch!

I took Connor, his Pawpaw Doyle Morrow, and our friends Tate, Travis, and Jordan, to the UFL Championship Game at Sam Boyd Stadium here in Las Vegas. The UFL is an new, upstart football league with a team in Las Vegas, the Locomotives, so Connor and I supported them them this year. We were generously given seats to the Championship Game in the end zone, the dream suite leather seats that recline, by Community Relations Director Ralph Vuono. Thank you, Mr. Vuono! We had a great time on the field before the game, and got a to celebrate the Locos championship with the players as they left the field.

The boys got to meet Florida Tuskers Placekicker Matt Ryan, who just might find his way back to the NFL this week after a successful season with the Tuskers.

It's been a while since my last post... Chloe had a birthday, it was Halloween, and we had family photos made... my best excuse is that Chloe's birthday and our family photos were shot by an amazing photographer friend who is going to get us the photos real soon, but becuase she's so great it's worth waiting for! No excuse for Halloween photos, though.

Chloe and dad are getting to be real tight... she is able to go to more and more things with me, although it is a process, let me tell you. COnnor is also getting used to his sister encroaching on COnnor/Dad time! Our church sponsored a Japanese Cultural Fair, and so I had her dress up in a little Japan outfit and we took her photo.. she is so cute! The other two photos are from Friday night at Coldstone Creamery with the family.

Annette and I just returned froma weekend in New York City, attending the Brooklyn Tabernacle Worship Conference in Brooklyn. We had a great time worshipping and being inspired by the ministry and music of the Brooklyn Tabernacle.
SOme of the highlights of our trip included singing with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, getting to see our friend Becki Trueblood and meeting her husband Shawn, who sings with Phillips, Craig, and Dean; taking a bike ride in Central Park (actually, a guy rode us around); and walking the streets of Manhattan. These photos are of Annette at Central Park, on the Broklyn Bridge, and at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Here's my baby ballerina Chloe Violet, on her way to ballet class each Tuesday. She loves to dance, and the teacher said Chloe is the most attentive little girl in the whole class, and has a lot of potential. Makes me proud... :)

Chloe started preschool on Monday. She was so excited, and happy to have two of Connor's former teachers at the Silversprings preschool.

Annette and Connor and I went to see the Las Vegas 51's the other night, and had terrific seats- second row directly over the dugout. It was jersey night; Connor was given a PCL (Pacific Coast League) official ball by one of the first base coaches; Annette caught a t-shirt; and it was only about a thousand degress with 100% humidity (I was proud of Annette for even going at all). It was a fun night. I think Chloe will be able to go next year (she is a STRONG-willed little girl)...

My wife Annette and the kids are spending the month of June with her family in Texas, so this was the first (and hopefully last) Father's Day spent away from the kids. It was a complete drag, but I did get phone calls throughout the day, and these photos of my beautiful children Connor, 6; Chloe, 3; and Caleb, 2.

While in DC, we had the chance to see several friends. We stayed with Annette's cousin Trey (picture in previous post) and were able to visit with him and see him in his office at Capitol Hill. We were able to have lunch with one of our dear friends from Green Valley, Pat Norman. Pat works in DC a good part of the year during the week, then flies back to Henderson on the weekends. I traveled with Pat and her huband Ellis on a missionary trip to Thailand about three years ago. They both think Connor is something else, and make it a point to see him and talk with on Sundays.
We spent Thursday night with Andrianna and Kelly Dunbar. Andrianna is a dear friend who was in my church in Tucson. She met her husband Kelly at Baylor, and they have been married for five years. It was an added treat that her mom and dad, Jon and Renee, came into town, and I was able to visit with them. Connor played Guitar Hero for Kelly half the night, and Kelly was great to encourage Connor while I talked with the Heidens. It's a great blessing to have friends and family in different cities, and to be able to visit while on vacation.

Last Thursday Connor and I went to the Capitol building to meet our Nevada Senators, Harry Reid and John Ensign. Each Thursday when the Senate is in session, our Senators have a meeting time/ breakfast with Nevada residents. Annette's cousin Trey Hicks, who we stayed with during the week, works for Senator Coburn of Oklahoma, so he took us to our meeting.
It was packed in the LBJ room of the senate, and so Connor and I tried to find a corner of the room where he could eat his donut in peace. We went to the far corner of the room, and it just happened to be where Senator Reid was. He came over, chatted with us, asked about our church, and Connor let him know he was a volunteer greeter at the church, meaning he wasn't paid. Senator Reid thought that was pretty good, and when we went to get an official picture with the Senators, he relayed Connor's comments to Senator Ensign.
Afterwards, we left Capitol Hill and traveled to the White House for a tour. We saw the East Wing, and really enjoyed it.
We then went back to the Capitol (I needed to get my camera, which you can't take to the White House, from Trey). We went to Trey's office, and Connor struck up a long conversation with one of the office managers, Mary, who has worked for as number of different senators in her career. COnnor and I explored the capitol building some more,and spent a little time riding the underground trains. We had passes, but I don't know for sure if we should have been riding the train reserved for the Senators, but nobody kicked us out or anything. :) We had a great day.

When we arrived in DC a week ago last Monday night, one of my favorite people in the whole world, Andrianna (Heiden) Dunbar picked us up at the airport. Andrianna was in my youth choir at Mountain View Baptist in Tucson, and through the years she and her family have become such dear friends. She drove us to the Lincoln Memorial, and we walked around the Viet Nam Memorial and to one of Connor's favorites, the Albert Einstein statue. Afterwards, we went to dinner in the Eastern Market area- a great first night in DC.

Last Tuesday night we went to see the Washington Nationals play the Cincinnati Reds. The game was delayed by rain for two hours (you don't ever see that happen in Phoenix!).We met a really nice ticket taker during the rain delay who "upgraded" my $5 nose bleed tickets to the front row along the First base line.

The Nationals mascot is Screech, the Eagle.

During the middle of the 4th inning, they have the "Running of the Presidents" or something like that. Guys dressed up with oversize heads of Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt, race for a winner. Abe Lincoln had some wheels this night, for sure, and won by a landslide. Here's Connor high-fiving George Washington...

Here's the first of several photos from our Washington DC trip...
Last Tuesday Connor and I took a tour of the Capitol building, courtesy of our Congresswoman, Dina Titus. She was so very nice to allow us in to her office, and visit with us for several minutes. Funny, but she's about the first person I've seen that rendered Connor speechless- he was uncharacteristically un-talkative to her! We were so appreciative of her time, and for arranging not only a tour of the Capitol, but also a tour of the White House last Thursday.

We had a blast, and I'll be posting photos from our trip over the next several days...

Connor and I just completed our first Father-son trip, a week in Washington DC. I will be posting many photos from our adventures, but I do want you to know that I don't neglect my other two kids! :) Chloe is my sweet baby girl sent from heaven, and Caleb is my joy and answer to prayer. The only difference is, Connor loves the camera, where Chloe and Caleb don't. It is pulling teeth to get Caleb, especially, to pose. So here is my current favorite photo of a kid I can't wait to get to know better, my baby bootie Caleb.

Connor started T-ball this year and is playing for the MudCats each Monday night at Paseo Verde Park. He has developed a love for going to watch baseball- over the last three years, we have gone to a number of 51's games, and have visited the Ballpark in Arlington and Dodger Stadium. Now he's learning to play, and he's doing pretty good. He has potential- he's one of the biggest kids on the team, and when he's not chatting up the coaches, or thinking about unrelated things to the game he's playing in (tonight he was obsessing about a cheese omelette his mom would make for him after the game), he does okay.

One of our dear friends is Heather Messick of Saraland, Alabama. Annette and I met Heather when we moved to Mobile, and sang as a trio with her on a number of occasions. She is an amazing vocalist! We love Heather and her husband Mark. Since we moved from Mobile, Heather and Mark have had three children. Their third is a very special baby girl with formidible challenges. Victoria has Downs Syndrome. Heather and Mark have been blessed by this baby entering their lives, and she wrote a song about it. She asked me to put these photos in video form, and I was very honored and happy to do it, so here it is- Heather Messick singing "She is God's Child."

Last Thursday my Aunt Dee from Castro Valley, California, came to Vegas on her way to visit my Aunt Bea (Yes, Aunt Bea and Aunt Dee, my dad's sisters, the remaining two from eight kids), and we were thrilled that she stayed with us for a night. Some of my favorite times as child were spent on vacation at her home in the Bay area, so I was glad to return he hospitality. Her husband, my Uncle Cecil, passed away last year at age 87. After spending a fun evening together, we drove her to St. George on Friday. Aunt Bea has a beautiful condo on the bluff high above St. George Blvd. I didn't take a photo of the view straight on, but you can get an idea of her views from the photos wih the Red Rock mountains in the background. Connor, Chloe, and Caleb were satisfactory entertainment for all of us.

Last Friday night, Annette's grandfather, Melvin Morrow, passed away in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 92 years old. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Estelle.

I made this video in tribute to my children's Pappaw. He was a great man, who loved the Lord. The clips used in this video were taken from Melvin's own home movies shot in the 1950's and 60's.

The song, "Last Mile to Jordan," was written by our dear friend Rebecca Peck, with vocals by former Gaither Vocal Band singer Terry Franklin.

We stayed with ANnette's cousin Trana, her husband Chris, and their baby Joss. We had a wonderful time in their home in Sherman Oaks. Chloe was in love with Trana, Connor was in love with Joss, and Caleb didn't break anything.

Trana got us passes to Universal Studios Hollywood, where she works as a publicist. We had a great time!

We also went to the Santa Monica pier, the train in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, and I took Connor and Chloe to Bel Air Presbyterian Church Sunday. It was a terrific time in Southern California!

This past Monday and Tuesday the Nevada Baptist Convention held their annual Evangelism Conference at our church, and I was the Music Director for the meetings. I always enjoy this conference, especially when we are asked to host, which is about every other year.
This year we had amazing speakers- Dr. Dwayne Mercer, pastor of First Baptist Church, Oviedo, Florida; Dr. John Franklin; and Henry & Richard Blackaby. Henry Blackaby is sort of a Southern Baptist icon, thanks to his incredible book, "Experiencing God," which has had hundreds of thousands of copies printed and read all over the world. But after hearing him speak, I discovered he was much more than an annointed author. He is an effective communicator, in a very soft spoken way. His son was equally persuasive, and preached a sermon that greatly moved me. The other men were amazingly effective and used of God.
I showed the video of Connor as Billy Sunday in the afternoon session, which went over extremely well. Connor followed that with his solo, "Everybody Ought To Know." Afterwards, I introduced him to Henry Blackaby, and took this photo.
It's been a long time since I last posted- I have lots more coming soon, but bear with me. it's the last of January, and- I'm not kidding- I'm sending out Christmas Cards this weekend.

Today was one of the most historic weather days in Vegas history. Snow, snow, snow!
I was peparing for our Living Nativity at the church when it started to come down- and then, it just didn't stop. I was real non-chalant about the drive home when I started out of the parking lot, but was very grateful to be home, safe and sound, by the time it was over. People were stranded and stalling, and sliding all over. We had a tree in the front lose several BIG branches when they snapped under the weight of the snow. I went around to all the trees in the front and the back and tried to relieve the weight by knocking off the snow, and had some luck. I hope they make it throught the night. Connor and I went out in the middle of the street for snowball wars and to build a snowman. It's been a lot of fun!

Connor was assigned evangelist BIlly Sunday for Famous America Day at his school, so we decided that in addition to giving his speech, he would recite a portion of one of Billy Sunday's sermon. He was terrific!

Dad took Connor out for a fun day after he did such a great job at school. First, it was lunch at Sweet Tomatoes. Second, we went to Ceasar's Palace to walk around and for Connor to play on the giant floor piano like the one in the movie "Big." We went by Field of Dreams, where Pete Rose usually is, and there was Pete- and Kenny Stabler, the Snake, former Crimson Tide and Raiders quarterback- a big-time favorite of dad's. Connor had on his Alabama hat, andd when we walked in, Kenny stuck out his hand and said, "Hey young man- Roll Tide?" Connor responded, "ROLL TIDE." He then told Kenny that he was born in Mobile, which made Kenny laugh and say that he was from Mobile too.

I told Connor to look at the ring on Kenny's hand, which prompted Kenny to do something I never thought he would do- he handed Connor his ring. Dad was a little bit excited at that point.

Pete Rose was sitting there atching all this, and so when Connor was passing him, he said, "Here, I want to show you this." It was a novelty World Series Ring that was huge. He told Connor is was from when he was fat.

Pete and Kenny Stabler couldn't have been any nicer to a couple guys not buying any of their product. I told Connor to shake the hand o the greatest baseball player of all time (he of the hated Cincinnati Reds, but I didn't say that out loud).

We finished up our day with a trip to the Las Vegas Pinball Hall of Fame. Connor and I go there occasionally, and it is really great- over 200 pinball games from the 50's to today, and you can play 'em, for what they cost at the time.

Here are several photos from the past few days... Chloe had a birthday October 28. My baby girl is now 3! We had a party with her best friend Chuck E. Cheese. Hooray!

Connor and Chloe went trick-or-treating and had a great time. Connor was Bibleman, and Chloe was a fairy pixie princess... something or other. She sure was cute!

Finally, here's a photo of Connor with our congressman from Henderson, Jon Porter, taken at a John McCain rally at the Henderson Pavilion the night before the election. It was an exciting rally- 11,000 strong cheering on our candidate. We really like our congressman, and support him, but sadly, he lost his bid for re-election Tuesday, along with so many other Republicans in Nevada.

My baby girl Chloe turned three Tuesday, so I took the day off, and declared her birthday a holiday. Except we went to Chuck E. Cheese, which for me was like a day in jail, or worse. But Chloe loved it, and I guess that's what's important, right?

Took a trip to the Pumpkin Patch this afternoon, and got a couple of photos. I am thrilled that Chloe is finally smiling when I ask her to, no small feat for the past couple of years. I had to trick her to get a smile shot. Caleb was sick this past weekend, but rallied enough to go with us. What am I saying- he had to go because Annette is out of town with the Wayne Show, and the cats weren't up to babysitting.

Connor and I went to see Mac King at Harrah's on a Friday afternoon a week or so ago, and had a great time. I had never seen Connor so excited- we had front row, aisle seats. Connor saw all the tricks close-up, and we were entertained. I was har-de-har-harring at all the juvenile innuendo in his act that was flying over Connor's head (Sir, did you just feel the first card jump into your pants pocket? No? How about the second card? Sir, did you just feel number two drop in your pants?) Mac King is a nice guy, and has a really pretty good show.

I always take my camera when Connor and I go to baseball games. For one, Annette bought me a really great Nikon for my birthday, and you never know who you'll see in Vegas. I saw UNLV's Head basketball coach Lon Kruger on the field, and when I asked him for a photo with Connor, he invited us down on the field. We love UNLV Basketball, and Coach Kruger. It's a great photo...

Annette and I went to a John McCain rally led by Mitt Romney last Wednesday, mainly because I was e-mailed and told John McCain would be there. I am a McCain fan- I supported him when I lived in Arizona; we went to the same church for a couple of years (I was on staff at North Phoenix Baptist Church producing TV when he first started attending there); and I really support his leadership in international affairs. In my local caucus, I was the only delegate to the county convention who supported McCain (20 delegates for Romney). Anyhoo- we went, and McCain was not there (big disappointment), but we heard from Mitt Romney, and afterwards, I reverted to my journalism days, and took my camera to get some photos. I love figuring out how to get around- it's so easy for me to get the angle, snake around, and get in position for good photos. I still think I'm part of the press. Anyway, here's some Mitt Romney photos.
PS- I think the choice of Sarah Palin is really great- she has so much upside, and I think McCain- Palin will take the day in November...

My sweet Chloe made me laugh out loud this week. Her mom had been out of town for a few days, and Chloe was really missing her. Little things were real big to her, and she was very emotional. She had asked me for milk three times that day, and I had given it to her. After speaking with Annette by telephone, I found out Chloe had had her limit. So once again, in early evening, Chloe climbed up in my lap and asked for milk. Except she whined for it. "I... want... my... milk!", she would yell, and then cry. Then again. and again. Connor starts Kindergarten at Lake Mead Christian Academy on Monday, and he is so excited. He is required by the school to have a King James Bible, so we went and got him his own last week. Connor is so thrilled to have his own Bible- he wants to read it, study it, and show it off all the time. It is one of the most precious things I have ever been a part of as a dad. He loves the things of God, and it is my prayer that God will reveal himself to Connor in His time.

I thank God for special people who teach and love my children. I have very fond memories of Bible Study teachers and ministers in my life as I grew up, and we are blessed to have the same kinds of people in our church in Henderson. Here's Connor with Miss Sonja, and Sonja's daughter Ashley. He loves them so much, prays for them, and can't wait to see them each week. Last Sunday the preschoolers did a recitation in church- Connor delivered the fourth and seventh commandments. and the whole class recited the books of the old testament. We love miss Sonja and Miss Ashley!

Had a lot of my family visit recently, mostly just passin' through, but I'll take it. My sister Mona and family came for a couple days. That's my niece Morgan with Connor. Anette had two concerts this past weekend, in Michigan and Indiana. Last night in Indiana, our friends Joshua and Suzanne Chavers drove over to Indiana from Louisville to attend the concert. It just so happens that Josh is a professional photographer and took these photos, for which I am so grateful. (You can see more of Josh's work @ www.joshuachavers.com.) I think Annette looks beautful, and I always hear great reports about her singing from our dear friend, Wayne's musical director and drummer, Marc Atkinson.
Oh, and just one more note about our friend Josh Chavers- he will be leading worship for us at Green Valley in two weeks, on Saurday night at 6PM, and Sunday at 9:45AM & 11AM. Don't miss hearing him!

Today I got to see proof that Annette actually does sing for Wayne Newton! I mean, it's only been four months, she has travelled thousand of miles, to Canada twice, Atlantic City, Oregon, Florida, and many other places, but I haven't seen a photo or a video... until today. We had a fun Fourth, although without mommy... she had to travel for a concert tomorrow night in Illinois. We went to the Morris' home, had a great time if swimming and eating, and visiting with friends. We went home early so I could put babies to bed, and then Connor and I went outside with the neighbors and blew stuff up. Fun!

Connor lost one of his front teeth today.... He was so excited, and couldn't wait to wake me and let me know. The day before he asked if we could yank it out with a remote controlled car (he saw it on America's Funniest Home Videos), bu I told him to cool it a little. It had been loose a long time. Chloe is mildly impressed. Caleb is just happy to be walking around!

Here's a photo of my sister Lisa and her boys Gage David and Max, with Annette and Connor, on the street in downtown Indianapolis. We got to meet up with them as I attended the Southern Baptist Convention in June 2008.

Our friend, gospel singer and minister Alicia Williamson was at the convention, and we got to see her for a few minutes. Alicia and her husband Richard were kind friends to us in Mobile, and a few years ago Alicia ministered to our church in a mighty way one Sunday.

My nieces Baylee and Laura visited us with their mom, Annette's sister Alyson, this weekend. Connor and I took them to see "Kung Fu Panda" at the Palms, and on the way home we stopped by to get a photo at the famous Vegas sign.

A few days ago Connor and I were playing in the play room (where else would we play?). He was playing the part of Bible Man, the title character in a TV show he loves. I think the show is great, and that he wants to be Bibleman, but Connor always wants me to be a bad guy. I keep telling him that I don't want to be someone who is against God, but he persists, so I sometimes give in.
Well, the other day I gave in, so Connor proceeded to arm himself with the armor of God- the helmet of salvation, the sword of the spirit, the breastplate of righteousness- you know. He starts fighting me, with all the sound effects and drama that only a five year-old can. He zapped me to the floor, where I writhed in pain. He stood over me, and yelled, "Baptize Him!" So I shook a little bit, squirmed around, then calmed down. I looked up at him, smiled, and said, "Now I love Jesus." Sensing he was going to lose his playmate, he paused, then pointed at me again, and shouted, UN-baptize him!"

Last week Annette and I got to visit with our dear friend, Fred Heumann. He was in town from Nashville to meet with and share ideas with the worship staff at Central Christian Church here in Vegas. Fred and Judie Heumann, and their son Joel, were dear friends when Annette and I lived in Nashville. Fred works for Word Music, and was one of the first to introduce worship music from the UK to American churches. This was Fred's first timje to meet our kids, so that was special. He and Annette and I stayed up late in the night one night when he was here, visiting, laughing, and catching up. We love you, Fred, Judie, and Joel!

My niece Morgan has signed to play softball for Bethany College in Kansas, an NAIA School. She is beautful, and such a great young lady. You can't know how proud I am of my Morgan!

Yuma, Arizona – May 13, 2008 -- Arizona Western College is proud to announce that AWC Softball player Morgan Evans has signed with NAIA school Bethany College in Kansas. The announcement was made this afternoon in a press conference on the AWC Campus, and comes three days before Commencement ceremonies at Veterans Memorial Stadium this Friday.
Evans worked hard to show her coaches the facets of her game that would earn her extra playing time, and by the end of her 2-year career, she had secured an important spot in the Matadors’ offense. The Cibola High School alum spent much of the early part of her freshman season learning the game as a pinch-runner or a late-game defensive replacement, she took full advantage of her time, and impressed then-head coach Pam Stone enough to earn more starts as the season wore on. ‘Mo-Mo’ started 28 of the Lady Matadors’ 59 games in 2007, and participated in 42 games overall that year. Despite getting only 70 at-bats, Evans scored 18 runs and stole 6 bases during her freshman campaign. With a new head coach and an influx of new players in 2008, once again, Evans started the season without a starting outfield job, but didn’t let it deter her at all. Evans continued to work hard to impress AWC Head Softball Coach Angel Shamblin, and by mid-season, Morgan was the team’s starting right fielder. At the plate, if the Matadors were starting a rally, Evans was usually in the middle of it, and her .356 batting average ranked her 4th-best on the Matadors’ team in ’08. Shamblin used Evans to manufacture runs several times-as evidenced by Evans’ 10 stolen bases and 25 runs scored (5th).

Okay, we don't usually let Connor read Star magazine (we're People people- but he doesn't read that either), but we made an exception this week when we found out that my little sister, Connor's aunt Lisa from Decatur, Illinois, is in this week's issue. I posted a week or so ago a photo from the Decatur newspaper of my sister getting her picture taken with Matt Damon. Well, that photo made it's way to Star, so we had to go out and buy a copy for posterity. Oh, and by the way, the movie being filmed in Decatur is still in production, so this weekend Lisa got Matt Damon to sign her copy.

My niece Baylee (Annette's sister Alyson's daughter) came for a brief visit last week, and the kids were in heaven. I haven't gotten to see Bayleee in a few years, so I was a little shocked to see that she's grown a foot and a half, changed hair color, and is a beautiful young lady.

Yesterday, Connor and I made our way to Planet Hollywood to see the "Gazillion Bubbles Show." It's supposed to be really pretty cool, and with a gazillion bubbles no less. (I give blood- I've given over a gallon since we've lived here- and one of the things they do to get you to come in is give you show tickets. That's where I got two duckets for the bubbles show.) Anyway, we went all the way there, only to be told that there was no show (it is on their website- a Friday 3PM show, plain as day). We were disappointed, got a lemonade, and vowed to return next week. On our way back to the parking garage, we had to go through Paris Las Vegas, and the first person I saw as we entered was my favorite Las Vegas comedian, George Wallace. (I still recall the early days of the FOX Network when they would have these shows featuring comedians. George Wallace was always on them. My buddy Chris Parrott and I would crack up at his "I been thinkin' " routine.) I took out the cell phone and asked George for a picture with Connor. He couldn't have been any nicer, and here's the photo. I've seen George twice, and rolled on the floor each time (no, I do not drink). It was a laughter roll. Connor thought he was nice, and as we drove home, I pointed out no less than four giant billboards for our man George and his show.

At the beginning of this year, our church remodeled our facilities. It was a $350,000 project, that included, among other things, the repainting of the entire enterior of our building; new carpeting; new theatre seats; stone work around the baptistry and in various spots around the building; tile throughout our hallways; new video projectors; plasma screens in the foyer; a new video camera used for baptism and preaching; and hard wood on the steps of the altar and around the stage area. We even added a remote controlled sunscreen to go behind the stained glass above the baptistry when the sun gets too brilliant! It looks like a new place. Connor and I went to see the Las Vegas 51's last night, and had a really great time. Connor has been fond of Cosmo, the 51's mascot, for a long time, and loves to greet him each time we go to the game. Also, Connor has just learned "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," and belted it out for me.

On a side note, by the closest of margins at the call at first base, we missed seeing a triple play.

My niece, Morgan Evans (center in this photo) from Yuma, Arizona, had a nice write-up in our hometown paper, the Yuma Sun, this past week (it was a writeup of these three girls who played sports in High School). Morgan is the center fielder for the Arizona Western College Lady Matadors softball team, and I am so proud of her. She is a beautiful young lady, going to college on a full ride scholarship, has a very nice boyfriend (who is a basketball player from Las Vegas), and is dear to my heart. Morgan was a baby when I graduated from college, and after being around her, and baby sitting every once in a while, I decided all I ever wanted was a baby girl (I am so happy to have my baby girl Chloe). I love you, Morgan!

Yesterday Annette and I took my Gospel Service leadership (our Gospel service is our 8:30AM Sunday service where we sing hymns, southern gospel, and black gospel music) and their spouses to a luncheon at the Las Vegas National Golf Club, which was sponsored by Media Fellowship International. From time to time I do video projects for KEEN-TV here in Vegas, and get invited to attend. The guest speakers for this luncheon were singers Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. We had a wonderful meal, great fellowship, and heard from two of the five members of "The Fifth Dimension." What more could you ask for? They spoke about sharing Christ in the entertainment industry.

Here's the first of several posts from my mom's 80th birthday celebration in Yuma, Arizona, last weekend.

Here's my family, minus dad, who passed in 1990. Back row is me and my brother, Ed Simpson. Last night Annette and I got to attend a concert at Cox Pavilion of the group that Annette sang with for many years, the Heritage Singers (www.heritagesingers.com). They were great. Most all of the singers at the concert last night were friends that Annette sang while in the group, so it was a real blessing, and a lot of fun. My biggest disappointment was that they were unable to be with us here at Green Valley on Sunday morning.
Val Mace is one of Annette's dear friends, and one of my favorite singers ever. Connor quickly fell in love with Val during the hour we visited with them at the Doubletree Hotel!

Rob Burkey and his wife Kerry are dear friends of Annette's. Rob is a Worship Pastor in Northern California, and an incredible soloist. I would love to get Rob to come by himself and lead worship at Green Valley sometime!

One of the things I've started doing since Annette began singing with the Wayne Newton Show is to google blogs, in the outside chance someone commented on a show she performed in. Here's an interesting one...

A very talented artist from Canada attended Wayne Newton's show last Thursday, and gave her bloggers-eye-view of the show. What was pretty cool is that since she couldn't take a camera into the show, she brought a sketch pad, and made a series of sketches throughout the show. The sketch above is one she made of Annette while she was singing her solo. The others are of, of course, Wayne Newton.

Today, my mom, Geraldine Peterson (see here last year with Caleb, top, and Chloe) turned 80 years old. Mom lives in Yuma, Arizona, with her husband, Robert Peterson. She's celebrating low-key today, but she's gearing up for her big 80th party we're having in two weeks in Yuma. All of my family will be there, and I am looking forward to seeing everybody- especially my little sister Lisa, who hasn't seen Caleb or Chloe yet. Chloe is named Chloe Violet after Lisa, who is Lisa Violet. Happy birthday, mom- I love you!

I finally got my first real TV commercial. Hope you like it!

Okay, it's not real, but hopefully, it made Annette laugh. She is in Ontario, Canada, singing in the Wayne Newton Show. Just to update you, Annette is on the road this week for three dates- two in Canada, and one in upstate New York. It's the longest road trip she'll have to take, and the big deal is that she'll miss Easter at church. I always have her sing, and she will definitely be missed by many at the church. She will be back on Sunday afternoon, so our family can spend time together then. She is rehearsing a duet with Wayne, the Everly Brothers song "Let it Be Me", and looking forward to singing it. Although she's a little homesick, she is having a wonderful time.

Annette had a pretty lifestyle-altering change this week. In the span of a week, she went from stay-at-home mom to a background singer/ soloist for the Wayne Newton Show. Really! One of our dear friends is Marc Atkinson, Musical Director for the Wayne Newton show, and one of Annette's biggest fans. He has been talking about this for a couple of years, but this week it came about. Last night Annette sang in her first concert, in Pendleton, Oregon, at a sold-out show, and had a featured solo. She sang Martina McBride's "Valentine," and had a very good reception. Word from Marc was that Wayne was very pleased, and so Annette is looking forward to the next concert in Florida, this Sunday, although being away from the kids is still really hard. I'll keep you posted on what's going on. Only is Vegas!

This past Sunday Annette sang in church, and so I thought I'd record it and post it. She performed the Watermark classic "Captivate Us," accompanied by our dear friend Hexel Hernando.
You may notice that the stage is bare- we are in the midst of a $350,000 remodel of our facility, which will include new carpet, new theater seats, and new projectors and plasma screens in the foyer. They've repainted the entire church, and we now have new tile throughout the hallways. It's looking really great.

Frank Hill is a dear friend and one of my favorite soloists from my choir. He sang "His Eye is on the Sparrow" Sunday morning in our Gospel service, and it was anointed. It was an all-around pretty good day for music, I must say.

Here's something you don't see everyday. Our church pulled out all our pews to make way for new theater-style seating. We asked for help following the morning service, and 77 guys showed up, and took 40 minutes to pull the pews, pull up the joints in the floor, and a few other minor moving jobs. We thought it would take the better part fo two hours. It was really pretty cool! The kids in the photo are my friends, from left: Cody Anderson, Katie Burford, and Marissa Mirsky.

Last Saturday night, Annette and I attended a Valentine's dinner put on by our church at Ventano's, a wonderful Italian restaurant in Green Valley with a sweeping view of the Las Vegas strip. We were entertained by our friends, Whitney and Marianne Phoenix, who were just terrific, and by a special appearance of one of the top Elvis impersonators in Vegas, Brendan Paul. Brendan owns the Graceland Wedding Chapel on the Strip, has appeared as an Elvis impersonator in a number of films (including Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with Johnny Depp), and is a friend of ours from church. His wife Deedee is a doll, and they have two boys around Connor's age. You always know when Brendan is at church, with his height, and abundance of jet black hair.
For a while we had two Elvis impersonators attending the same church service, sitting on opposite sides of the auditorium. I imagined that they would glance at each other in a competitive sort of way, and give each other the Elvis snarl.

Leah Orsack sings in my choir, is a soloist on my praise team, and a dear friend from church. Our kids all love Leah! She interviewed Celine Dion today as part of her job as producer for the 4PM newscast on KLAS-TV Channel 8 in Las Vegas. It was a thrill for Leah, who adores Celine. Congratulations, Leah!

Connor lost his first tooth Friday afternoon. He was so excited. I know that, because he kept telling everyone, "This is so exciting." I haven't figured out how much cash the tooth fairy should give, but it's a bump up from the 25 cents I got as a kid (which was pretty good back then).

When my wife's Grandparents moved from their Fort Worth home of over 40 years last year, they allowed us to go and pick a few items from their affects to take as keepsakes. We had travelled by plane, so we selected a few small items (otherwise, I would have had so many great tools!).
I picked up a first edition hard back copy of Pastor David Wilkerson's classic, "The Cross and the Switchblade." Later I found out Annette's grandmother Estelle was David's secretary when he moved his ministry to Texas.
Last April I attended the Pastor's Conference at the Brooklyn Tabernacle in New York (it was incredible), and David Wilkerson was a late replacement speaker for Tony Evans, who coudn't get in to NYC on account of bad weather. Wilkerson was inspiring, and I decided that I should send him the book at his Manhattan church office, to have him sign it for my newborn, Caleb, as a keepsake. I did, and he sent it back with the inscription: "Caleb Benjamin- Stay close to Jesus! He's all that matters. David Wilkerson"
